Just out of curiosity,
Has anyone's child with ADHD had any interesting happenings with sedation? My 10 year old ADHD/Tourrette's/ mild Aspergers son had a colonoscopy last year and did NOT "go to sleep" on 5mg of versed in his IV! He was inviting the nurses to his birthday party and singing "la Vida Loca" from the Shrek soundtrack---now--he was comfortable---just pleasantly sedated enough so that the colonoscopy didn't cause him any pain---even though that amount of versed should have sedated him a lot more!!!
It was a little disconcerting hearing that!! My hubby is an anesthesiologist, and said that it does happen with some people. I am wondering if there is an ADHD connection--just out of curiosity!
5mg of versed would've knocked most people out. I am wondering if he has a high tolerance to drugs--being that he has been on many different types of ADHD meds since he was 5.
Any thoughts?
This is my first post here--I just found this forum looking for info on Aspergers.

I agree edbson, conscious sedation can do strange things to people
I guess my question was if anyone who has a child with adhd/aspergers has had similar experiences to my son's experience. I guess I am just fascinated by the way he is so different in so many ways. I probably should be in the research field!
We are truly fearfully and wonderfully made---the brain is so amazingly complex, and they haven't really even scratched the surface of HOW the brain works the way it does! it is just fascinating to me.
My son had to have some dental work, and decided to get it all done at once at hospital. They gave him something to calm him down before knocking him out and it made him high and hyper. They had to carry him in not wheel him into the operating room. I know he went out when they gave him the other stuff to do the work. I would say it is due to Anesthesia, different people do different things when under, especially conscious sedation, like versed.ASPERGERS IS A TYPE OF AUTISM. MANY KIDS WITH ASD RESPOND DIFFERENTLY TO MEDS AND EVEN THEIR SHOTS. lOTS DONOT DO WELL ON THESE 2 THINGS CAUSE OF A GI PROCESSING PROBLEM.
Hmmm
So it seems the odd reaction might be due to his Aspergers.....
although the different syndromes (ADHD and Aspergers) do overlap in some of the symptoms.......
I wonder if this is also the reason why my son has GI issues......he has seen a gastroenterologist who finds nothing physically wrong--just a few benign polyps--but he has huge issues with bowel movements....
I will research the GI processing problem.
Thanks for the possible connection! Very Interesting.
