Introductions

Hello, I am brand new here, and I thought that I would start an introductory thread. I hope that others will use it for this purpose too.

I am 44 yo, and have always known that I was different from most people. Well, now it is official! I AM different! It is a relief to know that my differences are not caused by character flaws or laziness. Some of the things I struggle with are memory and organization; relating to others (how weird do I appear today?); taking on more than I can handle; drifting off into my own world and thoughts... etc. and so on...

I guess this is all fairly standard stuff. The reason I am here is to meet other people like me. I am tired of feeling different all the time and want to be around similar people; people who are interesting, speedy, dreamy, and in the middle of about 367 projects at the same time.

Greetings. Hoping to meet you.

Welcome, Rainraven.

I and my brothers and sisters were considered different
as kids and we were teased. I like being different, though.

I enjoyed school, graduated from university and have a job
as a scientist, which fits my personality pretty well, though I'm
also interested in other branches of
science and more people-oriented activities such as teaching. No one job will let me use all my talents!

When my second child started kindergarten and I just
couldn't handle finding two sets of socks, mittens, lunches etc. every day in time for the school bus, I
looked into the possibility that I have ADD.
I ran into Teresa Gallagher on the Internet and we
started up a group calling ourselves Explorers: people who might be labelled as ADD, but on the other
hand we like ourselves as we are.

We have a webstar about being Explorers:

http://borntoexplore.org/addstar.htm

I now call myself SPIRE personality type. It stands for
Spontaneity, Passionate Interests and Responsiveness to one's Environment.

I tend to have piles of papers. I tend to start projects with great energy and enthusiasm and
not necessarily finish them.

A few months ago at work I counted and had 15 partly-finished projects at work.
I then tried really hard to work on finishing them, one at a time,
and not to start any new ones. Well, maybe I sort-of finished one or two but I've also started some other ones since then....

My web page about creative thinkers is part of the
Explorer Webstar:

I also suffer from migraine headaches, mild depression,
anxiety, asthma and chronic back injury.

Omega-3 essential fatty acids help the asthma, migraines and mental health.
I started Pilates a year ago, which is great for the back injuries.

I also use neurofeedback and take phosphatidylserine to aid in concentration and memory.

I like thinking up lists of suggestions as solutions to other peoples' problems.

I don't tend to talk about myself or my children much, perhaps for
privacy reasons, or maybe that's just my personality type. Or low self-esteem. Who knows.

But it helps me to give advice to others -- sometimes I end up
taking my own advice.

I'm an NP type on the Myers-Briggs personality sorter.
That's iNtuitive, Perceiving. I'm half-and-half for
Introvert versus Extravert and for Thinking versus Feeling. (see http://borntoexplore.org/addtemp.htm)

I live with my husband, 15-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter.

Hi RainRaven, I was DX'ed at 46. I always felt different. To bad this "thing" wasn't reconized when we were children. Than we were just different, but diden't know why, I kinda thought it was because I'm a mix of half Puerto Rican/white Irish mix. Everyone else was either Black or White, and I was raised by my Moms non-Hispanic family. I was soooo different. Just didn't know than what it was, and thought I'd out grow it. Now I know I won't .

You asked if you appeared "weired". You appear as NORMAL as the rest of us!.

Welcome RAINRAVEN! You are among friends!
