Don’t know what to do | ADHD Information

momofalex,  it may be worth the effort to find a new doctor, because the ADHD process is rarely a simple one and you will need to interact with this person fairly often. Finding someone you "click" with is priceless when it comes to your peace of mind. You might see if the neurologist will give you a Connor's form (or whatever form he uses for evluation) to give to the teacher. This will give him feedback on the behaviors in school directly from the teacher; and provide a baseline for any changes. My daughter's doctor likes to take a break from meds during the school year to see how badly the meds are needed and if any maturity occured that might reduce the need for meds. I also thing you need to have a doctor that will work well with you. If you like the psychologist, express your concerns and ask if she can recommend anyone. Our neurologist  is with the children's specialized hospital in our area. He diagnosed Alex in August with ADHD and mild ODD. ALex is 7, has been on metadate and intially had problems just taking the meds,he would continually throw the up(we sprinkle the capsul contents on chocolate syrup). He did finally take the meds but since about 3 weeks ago has been nervous about school in the mroning and nervous about taking his meds so he throws them up again.

Meanwhile, at school, he has been doing all the work and the teacher claims he behaves fine. He has been off meds now and still is doing well. Spoke w/ the neuorologist who was very unhelpful. He said that we can just try the daytrana patch but it is "not as easy as I may think" for him to be on the patch. I am so unsure at this point if he should just be off meds and continue with the psychologist(he sees her twice a month) or just put him on something else, even though his behavior has been very good.  OUr neurologist  just seems to not care what we decide, seems negative every time we see him(I know sometimes doctors lack bedside manner). I just feel so confused as to what to do!!!

I THINK ALSO YOU CAN'T MAKE ANYONE DO ANYTHING THEY ARE NOT WANTING TO DO. NO MEDS. SOUND NEEDED TO ME IF SCHOOL IS GOING GOOD. ODD IS A BIG PROBLEM AND IT'S SO Hard these days cause with our 2 they careless about a consequence. Seems like if he is doing well w/o meds, then don't make him take them.  You can always change your mind later if need be.
