TherapyHi All. I hope you don't mind my asking questions in regard to my 20 year old son. He is having quite a struggle maneuvering early adulthood. He has entered counseling and has been going for the last 5 or 6 weeks. I contacted the group because it was known to be well versed in ADHD. My son and the therapist are not clicking. Does anyone have any advice in finding a good therapist who understands ADD? Hi,I agree with understimulated. In college I was referred to a child psychologist for ADHD. I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and at that time it was thought that children would outgrow it. I realized that was not the case during college. The child psychologist that I saw helped me tremendously and I shudder to think how things would be if I had not sought help. Good Luck!!! I have been told that the best chance to find a good doctor or one that specializes in ADD is that you should seek a child psychologist even if your son is technically an adult as they are well versed on ADD and ADHD matters. Good luck! I got lucky with my therapist. she has aDHD herself and is/was very inspiring to me. we would laugh alot during our sessions. Someone who believes in and specializes in adhd treatment is a must. Unfortunatly i don't know how you would go about that. If he doesn't like his therapist than he shouldn't bother going. I'm not much help here i suppose. best of luck. |
