Hi, I am reading a Frank Lawlis book on ADD and have ordered the book about increasing your IQ.
This is the Dr. frequently seen on the Dr. Phil show. Has anyone implemented his program with your family, if so, how is it going?
I haven't read his book but I did hear him talk once on Dr Phil's show about his program. They implement movement and music it looks because he said it stimulates the brain. So we started putting on "pop" music during homework time and things seem to go much smoother for us. Isiah will tap his pencil, makes noises the the music but it has eliminated any fussing and he seems to go right through his homework now.I used to really enjoy Dr. Phil. I only caught part of the show about the IQ book, but to me is smacks of capitalizing on the anxiety we parents feel about our kids school performance. I'm sure he will sell a bizillion books and become a multi-millionaire, but I really can't stand it when Dr. Phil is just trying to increase his or his friend's wealth by exploiting our anxieties. I sincerely doubt there is any earth-shaking revelations in that book. Here is what I do--go to Barnes & Noble, find the book, sit down for 20 min and have a good look in it.
I saw that show. One comment really stood out for me. He said that people play music to concentrate -- they are listening to the beat not the actual music. The sound stimulates activity in a certain part of the brain. I found this interesting because I do this. I can comprehend complex information best when listening to music with headphones. So I don't know if "increases IQ" is the right wording, but I think it can improve comprenhension/concentration. Also, some children seem to concentrate better when moving. I'm not sure either of these ideas are novel.
