Ritalin- HELP! | ADHD Information

hi everyone

I have been taking ritalin for about 7months and I have had a few strange side effects since switching to ritalin 40mg LA. I have been taking anti-depressants on and off with the ritalin and I stopped recently and I started to experience panick attacks - which I have never gotten before. I asked my doctor about it and he said it was because I wasnt on anti-depressants. So I went back on them but I am still getting increased heart beat and this morning after jogging I was doing yoga and had heart palpitations and saw red - as in the colour of the room just went fuzzy and red. I have been feeling v strange latley and my mood it all over the place. sometimes I feel like I cant breath. I am really scared that the ritalin may be damaging my heart (yes I have been googling ritalin deaths!). My doctor seems to think it is a very safe drug and so did I until recently but now I am scared out of my wits about what it is doing to my brain and heart. I am thinking of stopping the medication but I am worried about what will happen then.

thanks so much

Anna

Dizziness, hard time breathing, etc.... can be an allergic reaction also.  It is best to talk to your doctor about it!!!!  Hi, I'm taking the exact same dosage as you, have experienced pains in my chest at certain strenuous times.  May I ask you, though, have you noticed any hair loss?  And, have you ever double-dosed?

hi

yes i have double dosed before but without any serious concerns. i now know what was causing my problems - it was the result of high anxiety - i stopped taking effexor a month earlier and this had caused me to develop what my doc calls 'floating anxiety'. I did not experience any chest pain though, so perhaps you should get that checked out, the hair loss sounds strange too.

if you don't have an existant heart problem, you won't drop dead taking retilin.but if you worry about it,it could bring the anxiety you are experiencing.

saying that i had a very bad reaction to retilin like you,my doc said it was because my body was metabolising the med too fast so i switched to concerta and no problem.

good you had it sorted.
