My son could not get enough of lego's and also knex toys which are also for building. These building toys were the only toys that sustained his attention for hours and they also helped bring out his creative side.
One thing I have discovered from this board, is that almost all of ADHD kids love Legos! Anything that they have to build, Legos, Magnetix or the Kinetix. My kid will play for hours.
I have an eight yeor old son and I was going to recommend these three toys! He can play with these for hours ... nice and quietly too. We've got a large investment in these toyws, but they are worth every penny.
I was going to say legos, too. They have lots of cool sets in all price ranges.
I know the Legos thing is big with my son too. Anything to build with. Or an empty box.. He picks up odd things to play with most times. But his problem is keeping things together. I'm always finding legos, magnetix, and pieces to his erector set..
I guess I'm stumped because he has so many things to build with and there are probably over a 1,000 match box cars in this house, I just don't know what to "ask Santa" to bring him next.." Oh the joys of Christmas shopping.. Hard to believe it is that time of year again!
I forgot one:
Bionicles are great! The boys love them and I often hear my son and other boys talking about their Bionicles. (which in my son's case, its great to see him interacting well with other boys.) They have new sets that light up which really has my son excited.
Lately all my son's been playing with is a couple of random peices of a "disected" transformer and some dollar store cowboys and indians.
*walks away scratching head*
WOW! Same here (my son is 6 thou).. it's all Lego's, match box cars, & trading cards. Well with the exception of playing board games with us and going outside to ride his bike. He has a room full of toys that he never plays with and when he does that means he is really really bored!.. which then he ends up breaking some by fidgiting with them. My son is a lego lover along with game boy and any plug and play TV game. He also got this game called shooter bots...he wants a lasar tag game this yearOne thing I have discovered from this board, is that almost all of ADHD kids love Legos! Anything that they have to build, Legos, Magnetix or the Kinetix. My kid will play for hours. My son loves collectible cards, anything except sports. He will sit and read the "flavor text" for an hour. Also, anything and everything legos or any other set that lets you build your own guy are perfect. He's 8, btw. And he still loves his Shrinky Dink maker!!My DS (7), is the star wars king. So he of course wants the newest light sabor.. he likes the trading cards as well. He will also use imaginext.. as they have little swords.. My guy is also the must wear a tie kid.. So he is getting a couple new ties and a black blazer... So he can keep up with his Tuesday dressing. In our house one can never have too many of these items. Plus matel, keeps making new ones...HAVE YOU TRIED EBAY THEY HAVE A SECTION IN THE TOYS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS(AUTISM,ADHD,DISLEXIA)IT COULD GIVE YOU IDEASWith Christmas time fast approaching what are some good toys that you would recommend to get an 8 year old boy with ADHD? I know my son loves video games, but gets so easily frustrated.. Didn't know if there were any toys that are out there that he would really enjoy, and maybe help him in the end without him realizing it...

well,i don't know about 8 years old but my son who is younger loves buckaroo and the snappy crocodile,i don't know where exactly you are but everything outdoors is great (tp climbing frame ect..)
he plays really nicely with other kids with these(for a while anyway).
maybe construction stuff like knexx where you can do it with him.
I'm having the same dilemma for Christmas. My son has no interest in anything for longer than 5 minutes so I have no idea what to get him either. I'm thinking a karaoke machine though cause he loves music.
