Tenex | ADHD Information
My son took strattera once and was hearing voices. He then tried concerta and got horrific tics. He is actually a rather mild case of ADHD and has some problems reading social cues. He is very smart. But, he is very impulsive and interrupts and has a hard time making friends. He talks excessively. I have not tried any drugs in the last year or so. He is 10 and in 5th grade. next year is middle school and I want to make sure it is an okay experience for him. change has always been hard and he comes home everyday to tell me which kids at school don't like him. he hardly ever gets invited to birthday parties and he knows it and his sister gets 2 or 3 invites a week! I took him to a new doctor who has recommended TENEX. I want to know if this has been used by anyone and what their experiences were.
bekMy son is exactly the same as the description of your son. I've never heard of Tenex. Please let me know if you decide to try it and have any success.hi i actually posted about tenex if you would like to view it it
is on page two from alliesmom. My daughter is only four just
about five and just started tenex five days ago. So far the
resulsts have been amazing. She is a little tired but i was told
this was normal and would fade once she got used to it. I pray
the results stay because she has been amazing. She sounds a lot
like your son. I was scared to give it to her because of her age and it
being a blood pressure medication but so far I am glad that i tried
it. She is more patient and less impulsive and sooo much easier
to redirect. She is showing more affection and just seem to be at
peace with herself and her surroundings. She has always struggled
with controlling things and interupting. Now she is just enjoying
simple things. I wish you luck and hope my experience stays
positve and I hope that you will try it and see the same results as I
have.
Tenex (guanfacine) is a blood pressure med that helps with many ADHD symptoms like aliiesmom said. Shire has even tested a long acting form and has submitted an NDA to the FDA to market thier form for ADHD. The one thing that it did not help with in the early studies was attention. My daughter is on it to augment her concerta and we have not side effects.

My son is 9, has been medicated since age 6, almost 7. We have been very successful with concerta AND guanfacine. He takes them both in the morning before school, then just the guanfacine before football around 4:30. We also tried stratterra, my son wanted to die when taking strattera and became depressed. That stopped once we stopped giving it to him. He also tried addreall xr, which made him psychotic. So far concerta is the best for him, but is best WITH the guanfacine!
My son is also just like yours with the birthday parties and friends. It sounds like adhd'ers seem to have those issues, but it breaks my heart! Keep in activities after school that he likes if you can.
Also, our prescription is called guanfacine and is only with insurance, but still cheap without insurance I believe. I hope it helps your son! I so wish my son could find a friend and sounds like you do too!
Anyone live in Massachusetts??!!
