hi

i live in the uk and things are so diferent here  hospital appointments doctors appointments medications support groups anger management are all free  if  you work then you have to pay for your prescriptions set price £6.50 but thats it. i couldnt afford my sons meds if they wasnt free good luck

You should call a Psychologist and see what Billing Codes and Diagnosis codes they use. A lot of insurance policies won't cover mental illnesses, but they will cover learning disabilities and such things like that. Get those codes and then call your insurance company and see if those codes are covered.  I had to do that myself, and when I did I was surprised to find out that it was indeed covered. You can also check with the Psychologist's office and ask them how much it would cost w/o insurance and if yours doesn't pay, see if they're willing to make a payment plan for you.

As far as meds go.. I'm not sure how much they run since I'm still waiting on my testing. and it's been awhile since my Son was on meds... it was around 0.00 or so a month for his Ritalin.
To get diagnosed I had a really long screening process with two different 4-hour testing days. These had to be done with a licensed psychologist. Then I met with a psychiatrist several times (still do) for med checks and changes. It can be a very long and costly process. I know the testing alone is close to 1K without insurance. My strattera is 4 a month (!!!) without insurance. Thankfully with the insurance it is down to . I'm sorry I don't have a better report for you, but hopefully this will give you a good (grim) idea of what you're in for.  without insurence I believe it can be pretty expensive. I take concerta and Strattera and my insurence actually sent me a letter to try something else other than strattera (big mistake) but I hear that strattera can be over 200 bucks a bottle (one month.) It only takes one visit to the doctor to get diagnosed but there are normally multiple follow up visits. If you end up starting on a med that works really good for you their would be very few visits but if you are like ME it will take you many many visits to the doctor before you start to get it right. I am planning on going take the first step of getting diagnosed for add asap.

I looked at my insurance plan and it does not cover any type of mental disorder.

I am just curious what is the cost of the doctors etc. and the meds that they may prescribe.

Can someone tell me the process of getting dianosed( what is involved ,how many doctor visits ect.) with add.
