If it is a tic, dytrana may make it continue . It is methylphenidate, which is a stimulant, and can cause tics.
I would look into Tourrettes , it is possible and is a common comorbid with ADHD
It was previously thought that ADHD meds caused tics or made them worse so the meds were contraindicated when tics were present. Recient studies have shown that tics can be comorbid with ADHD and are not worsened or caused by the meds. Keep in mind that the conclusions are based on statical probabilities and individiuals can have different results from the majority.
Today I took my son back to the dr. to get him started back on his meds and my daughter was with us. I was just going to get a refill for her. My son has been put back on adderall, which is the only one that ever worked really good with him. While we were there my daughter started clearing her throat, something she pretty much does constantly, and I asked the doctor what could I give her b/c none of the allergy meds have worked. The dr. checked her out and immediately said to stop her meds and switched her to a daytrana patch. Anyone familiar with this? Anyway the dr. said it was a tic and could be caused by the adderall (5mg) she was taking. Now that I think about though I don't believe it was the meds b/c it seems this has been going on even b/f she was diagnosed. I'm going to call Monday and see how long the medical records say this has been going on. Anyone had any vocal tics from the meds? Truthfully it is loud and rather annoying, but I have dared anyone to point that out to her, especially now that I know she can't help it.
