Increase in use??? | ADHD Information

well I dont smoke but I chew (chewing gum) and my bubblishes intake has gone up 300%. actually it seriously has and I can focus a lot better while I am chewing on something. obviously my meds help a lot but for some reason I can really hyper focus when needed if I am chewing gumThis is for anyone out there who takes a stimulant medication and smokes or chews or even both. Have you noticed a darastic increase in the use of tobacco? I take adderall xr and the amount i chew has at least double when the med is at work. Anyone???I used to smoke, once I started concerta - no more desire to smoke and no more cravings!!!!    I also had no more desire to consume large amounts of caffiene!!!  I agree Stangcotic, when I chew i seem to concentrate more
I would think chewing gum (sugerless is probably the best) would be good to help with dry mouth as well.  My son chews gum all the time.  At one time I thought it was a bad thing, but once i thoguht about it..  it probably helps more than it hurts now.  He is on Adderall XR 20mg.  Smoking increased for me only on adderall, not on dexedrine, but there are a number of factors that could be interfering with an objective generalization there, mostly due to the fact that the adderall wasn't really taken as prescribed. On high doses of adderall, I could smoke a pack of cigarettes in an hour or so. On dex, I probably still smoke about the same, but I enjoy my cigarettes a lot more. Was on Wellbutrin for awhile and, while I still had the desire/craving to smoke, my cigarettes suddenly tasted horrible, like the very first cigarette I ever had every time I lit up. Started chewing for the same buzz, but mostly for appetite management. Quit chewing and went back to smoking. Spitting in a cup got too nasty for me, but it was convenient to pull out a can during lab when no one's looking (tehe) or make my fellow co"workers" (i.e. strippers) cringe in the dressing room.

So anyway,

"Have you noticed a darastic increase in the use of tobacco?"

Yes and no. You could always talk to your doc about buproprion. I quit both chewing and smoking altogether with no problem because it was no longer enjoyable (for whatever neurophysiological/placebo-related reason). You don't miss what you don't crave, especially if your wallet and gums are healthier for it. im 16, dont smoke. but when im on my concerta i have this issue with chewing things.. pen tops, anything plastic really and that i can chew.. i find that im ok on the weekends when i dont take the concerta.. but the chewing seems like a "concentrating" habit for me. giving my brain something else to focus on while working.

Yes......yes, yes, yes, yes.

Which always kind of puzzled me since I am taking a stimulant, I'd think that my craving for other stimulants would be less, not more.  I'm baffled.

But, absolutely, yes.
