I'm trying to find a medication for my 8 yr old but not one that will string him out can any one help me please

If the med is working properly on an ADHD child you won't see that effect the anti-medders love to call "zombie" - the lethargy, or the increasing hyperactivity.  Usually either one means your child has been misdiagnosed or over/under medicated.

The best way to avoid troubles is to get the best caregiver right away.  Don't depend on an MD to know all about ADHD - that's asking too much.  Get a referral to a pediatric psychiatrist who knows all about childhood ADHD.  They can diagnose, set up therapy (essential) and get a med that will be both most gentle and most effective.

Watch when your child begins meds.  Ask the teacher to send back reports - at first daily if possible then weekly.  Monitor.  How does that saying go? - Trust but verify?

If you don't trust who's watching out for your child keep moving.

And don't listen to hype pro or con on meds.  Do the research and decide for yourself.  It's such an important thing - I wish I'd have had all the help available 32 years ago.
