What is mood disorder? | ADHD Information

My daughter does not have any mood disorders and acts that way as well but not all the time.  Does your son do this all the time?  If not I would not worry about it .  If you have concerns still you can always have your son screened for it.

As for the question what is a mood disorder the true defenition is is any of several psychological disorders characterized by abnormalitites of emotional state and including especially major depressive disorder, dysthymia, and bipolar disorder called also affective disorder.

My duaghter was having full blown rages last year. As we got her evaluated, started accomodations in an IEP and started positive reinforcement behavior modification, the rages settled down. She had developed anxiety and depression over failing school and being in a new school. Now with all of the above and meds helping her be more successful at school, we have much less stress and anger.

We did have to go through posibility of bipolar during the evaluations.

Thanks for the info.  That is why I am confused. Ds is so good most of the time.  The behavior Modification system we are using really seems to help.  That is why I was surprised when he melted down over such a small thing today.

Later on , in the car, this child had diarrhea of the mouth. He did not stop talking for quite some time and I was going insane with the constant questions, one after another, most of them redundant and having nothing to do with what we were doing at the time.  We would ask him to stop, he would for about 15 seconds and then start up again.

here is a good website about mood disorders.  It can be hard to tell the difference, and looking at family history helps.  Any history of bipolar, depression, addictions, and suicides.

My question is this!!!  My 6 yr old DS is a medicated ADHD.  He does very well and, using the token system, mostly stays out of trouble.  Then things happen, like today that confuse me.

Ds asked me to play spongebob on his play station. I tried but, believe it or not, I could not figure out the game, I am not good at video games.  After one hour of this, I told DS he could play, that I could not do it.  With this, I left the room. Ds started to scream at me that I should stay in the room and proceeded to have a COMPLETE meltdown, including whining, screaming, etc and even yelled " I am not moving and thats final" ( we have the house on the market) after being sent to his room.

Is this a mood disorder, a temper tantrum or is this an ADHD thing and how do I tell the difference?  I never know with Ds when he wakes up if he will be in a bad mood or a good one.  He is SO unpredictable.

there is no history of suicide or addiction. The rest, I do not know
