We have tried:
Adderall XR, Concerta, Metadate, Tenex, Strattera, Depakote, and she is currently on Geodon (There was an 8th one, but it was back between the Adderall and Concerta and I'll be dipped if I could remember what it was!)
The Geodon is actually slowing her down a bit. Some of the meds (like the Tenex) she was taken off of after a few days because the side effects were so bad! Think Jeckyl and Hyde!
I personally think an antidepressant would do more for her than the current course were on! (Clear up her abitily to think and maybe her body will follow) Between now and 6pm tomorrow I have to find it in me to "respectfully disagree" with a Doctor -One who obviously thinks highly of himself!

AAAAGGGRRRR!!!
Since March we have tried eight (yes, 8!) different medications with my daughter. Nothing has worked. Or, it would work for a week or two, and then major negative side effects would kick in and we'd try something new.
I am seriously beginning to think that we may not be looking at true AHDH after all, but the Doctor seems to have it in his head that it couldn't be anything else. Never mind the fact that we have a history of depression in my family. Never mind the fact that he only sees her once a month for 20 minutes at a time. Never mind that I'm her Mother and trust my instincts that there's something else going on! (And I won't even go into the fact that I'm older then he is and, yes, I do not have a medical degree; but I have had a little more life experience.)
We have an appointment tomorrow. I'm telling the Doctor that I just want her off of everything. Let the meds clear out of her system, try herbs and other natural remedies, and just start over from scratch! (With a NEW Doctor!!!)

OK, I feel better now!
If you don't mind me asking? What was the last med or current med that she's on?
My son has also tried several different meds and some work, but only for a short time and then they have terrible effects.
He's currently on Concerta and Prozac which seems to help. Of course we might need to up the dose, because he starting to become a distraction in school.
