Pragmatics | ADHD Information

Hello all -

I have mentioned before that I have a daughter (4) that was evaluated for possible pdd.  Her language development and her sensory issues made me feel almost certain of a dx of pdd-nos.

To my surprise, after three evals, she was never given a pdd dx.  She was infact labled as ADHD.

Her sensory issues are hypo sensitive, meaning she is a seeker.  She is not an avoider in any sense and from what I understand this is more typical of asd.  Loud noises and being touched does not bother her.  Her sensory problems are a self stim when she is in overload - she rubs her fingers together and tightens her face.  She also likes a lot of movement, like running, jumping, spinning and crashing into things.  We are in OT now and I am seeing a difference, thank God.

Her language is tricky.  She is ok on paper.  She passes all her evals.  Her expressive and receptive language are on track.  Her problem is mainly with social language, or pragmatics.  She cant express herself like she should.  She has problems with sentence structure and just making sense overall.  Sometimes she says she wants to blow fire - this means she is upset.

I was told by a developmental ped.  that her social skills take her out of the pdd area.  She is very social and she has never had a problem with eye contact or affection.  She has a best friend in school and seems to enjoy playing with all the kids.

My daughters ADHD dx is because she is VERY fidgety.  She cannot sit still even if she tried.  And she does.  She is told to sit on her hands in circle time at school.  She is hyper and it seems like she is always on the go.  She is hyper talkitive too, even with her pragmatic issue.  If she isnt talking, she is singing or humming so she likes to make noise.  She is very distractable and her attention span is short.

Am I describing ADHD?  I get worried because it seems like she has a lot going on.  Is it typical for a child with ADHD to have pragmatic language problems?

Sorry for the long post - I am worried:)  I get a little crazy when it comes to my daughter.  Any advise would be very appreciated.

Bumping - anyone?
