Went for 1st check up after starting meds | ADHD Information

Mac's first check up after starting his meds was today. He has lost 5 lbs in three weeks! I knew his appetite had decreased, but not THAT much! Luckily he is WAY above on the growth chart. He isnt "fat" just over all big for his age, looks more like a first grader than a kindergartner. She also added Ritilin 4 mg for use on evenings when he is too "out of control" after the Concerta has worn off. She didnt want to up the dosage on that due to his weight loss and we have to come back in a month from now. She was impressed with how well he is doing however. Things are MUCH better at school. Teacher said he is more focused, getting more of his work done and keeping his hands to himself better. Things are btter at home too, but when he comes down off the meds....he is worse than with out them, so were going to try to Ritilin on those days. Anyhow, thats my update! macsmom39015.7614814815

 i'm glad to hear that school and home life has improved....and hopefully the weight issue will work out, or will not be as much of as issue after he is on the meds for awhile.  good luck with the 4 mg of ritalin in the evening!

I just realized...she DID up his dosage on concerta, to 34 mgs a day. Glad to hear he is doing better at school. It is nice to hear good things about our kids..

Good luck with the weight. There are a lot of suggestions on the threads of this board to help.

My daughter initually lost weight as well. We have a handle on that now and I am actually ready to increase her concerta if the doctor agrees. She is doing much better except on the most difficult reading and testing. When she needs the concentration the most, she is the most distractable.
