I use ice cream to bribe my daughter to eat some chicken or fish at dinner. Pediasure alone or in milkshakes or smoothies. Body builder type protein bars. I have seen some parents add protien powder to shakes as well. Thanks for the ideas guys!

I use the instant breakfast too, but I sometimes add half and half instead of some of the milk...really boosts the calories.  And I use full fat milk for him.   It really helps for you to get a large breakfast in them before the meds take effect, but we struggle with this issue each day as well....add ice cream as a bedtime snack if ice cream tempts her, or milkshakes (again use half and half and/or whole milk)

good luck

Mac has lost 5 lbs in just under 3 weeks since starting his meds. Im concerned. I try to get him to eat, but I work all week so I cant be there for every meal. I amke sure he eats his cereal in the am but thats about all i can do on days I work. Aside from vitamins, would there be anythign else out there I can boost him with? Protien shakes or something maybe? Any ideas?I use carnation instant breakfast as his beverage for breakfast along with his meal. He usually eats eggs and a pancakes and some cheese.  I try to get him to eat as much as possible during breakfast.   chasemom, that is a great idea to use half and half.  I am sure it will boost the calories.  Also, I sometimes mix the carnation instant breakfast in the blender and add fruit.  I have a friend who adds peanutbutter to the chocolate flavor...this sounds yummy to me but my ds does not like peanutbutter

We have not had too many problems with eating so far - he is a little light at lunch and afternoon snack, but doing ok with dinner.  I am starting to weigh him each week to keep on top of it.

My sister said that she always tried to get her son to eat eggs for breakfast, befor the meds kick in.   She also let him eat later at night.  We put my son back on 2% milk, and I have heard a lot of people talking about the protein shakes.

Good luck!

I am having trouble getting my son to eat also just within the first day or two of being on the meds and so I thought about getting him some of those PediaSure drinks (Not really to have in the place of eating, but just in case I can't bribe him to eat something).  Which med is your son on?  My son is on Concerta, 18 mgs a day. I swear he looks like a victim from a concentration camp....im just used to him looking very healthy. I noticed today even his boxer briefs are looking baggy on him! His pediatrician tho still insists that he can afford to lose some weight...he has always been way over on the growth charts for height and weight. He isnt fat or over weight, just over all big. He just turned 5 and he looks closer to a 7 yr old, his sister the same way. Shes 3.5 and looks more like a 5 yr old. I asked his ped about adding this suppliments and protiend bars etc, she said NO....hes fine right now and to see if he evens out. However I think I will still get something for him. I cant stand seeing him like this. Usually vitamins of the B complex are useful in stimulating appetite. I give this to my son. It isn't that his appetite problem is over, but I see some improvement now and then.i lost quite a bit of weight with concerta,i started in july,my appetite started to come back a few weeks back, when i eat i make sure i eat fattening and high calorie stuff.i also takes breaks in my medecine and all i do is eat all day, however i would check if it is ok for your son with the doc if you consider that option. My son also eats all day when he is off his Concerta (weekends).  But yes you need to check with the doc on that first...I also moved dinnertime back to 7:30 by which time the drug has been in his system for 12 hours at least, so the reasoning is that the effects are at least lessoning.  He seems to be more hungry by then (but my poor 13 year old is STARVING by then!)  My sons issues are mostly with inattentiveness, but he is VERY talkative all weekend off the meds, which is not always a bad thing....I really get lots of tidbits from him then.
