Waiting to go to work for a 3-11 shift | ADHD Information
So, I quit my job as a teacher because I couldn't stand my boss. It was my first job out of college and I have been looking for a new job since July with a somewhat unimpressive resume (compared to people who graduated from college a while ago - I did go to Bryn Mawr College for my undergrad, and a lot of people find that impressive ...).
Okay, I was finally offered a position at a Psychiatric clinic ... *dunt, dunt, dunt (scary music)* but I have to work a 3pm to 11pm shift! I don't know what to do! I know I have to take the job b/c I need the money big time.
I remember, though, when kindergarten used to be you'd have the first half of the day for the first part of the year and then have to wait until after lunch time for the 2nd half of the year to go to school. Oh my god! I could NOT handle the 2nd half kindergarten. I have never been able to handle waiting to go to work or to go to classes, because that just isn't relaxing! I don't know how to cope. I mean, I wasn't on meds in kindergarten -- I was only diagnosed my sophomore year of college, but I don't think that medication helps much with waiting.
Another junky problem: my significant other works days and I will NEVER be able to see them. The place I'm working at has this weird 7 days on, 2 off (not weekend), 8 days on, 4 days off (2 of them on a weekend) shift ... Like, I will NEVER see my sig.fig.
But, more imporant than that even -- I don't know how to cope with the waiting. I mean, I feel like I won't ever be relaxed on the days that I have to work. I prefer to get the junk parts of things done first. I even eat the vegetables on my plate first so I can save the good stuff for last (that has been harder since I stopped eating meat hehe, but I still do it)! So, anyone that thinks they can help -- pleaseeeeeeee! I don't know who to talk to b/c none of my close friends have adhd and everyone thinks they understand, but they so totally don't.
Anything anyone can tell me would be much appreciated!! Thank you!!!!!!
Find someone who's a night owl to swap shifts with! I have to work 8 to 5 and I have a terrible time getting my sorry tired sluggish rear end out of bed in the morning (I set the alarm for 5 am just so I'm ready to leave the house by 1/4 to 8), and I wouldn't mind working 3 to 11 as I'm usually up past midnight anyway, wide awake and bouncing off the walls. My type of job (R&D scientist) is generally only available as an 8 to 5. On the weekends I routinely sleep past 9.
