HAIR LOSS AGAIN...SORRY | ADHD Information

Share

I've never seen anything about losing hair with regular use of stimulants.  Come to think of it - I've never seen anything about abusing stims and losing hair!

Meth can cause real trouble with skin (acne, premature sagging/wrinkling) and there is the compulsive skin picking which comes with it.  You'd have to take a massive dose of any conventional ADHD med to even come close

Hair can be lost due to lack of proper nutrition, pulling it out, or by a biproduct of testosterone that is toxic to the follicles (number one cause of hair loss).  Can't say any of those can be pointed at as ADHD med-caused.

Don't worry about it.  If you're having hair loss tell your doc! It's possible you have metal deficiency, nutrition deficiency, heavy-metal poisoning, or some chemical/hormonal imbalance.  Docs know how to check for you.

"have been bedazzled by the ever-fun Adderral XR"

Hmm...  what do you mean by that?  Are you sure you "don't have that desire to over-do for some speed buzz" ? Um...no.  I'm not sure...

Now I apologize if I keep asking this question.  About stimulant meds and hair loss.  Glenn where are you?  Is this true with all the stimulant meds?  I am currently on Ritalin LA but have been bedazzled by the ever-fun Adderral XR.  Now does anyone know if this is true of methamphetamine that you get off the street as well?  Any and all comments would only be saving my life.  Thank you.

I am on aDDERALL xr 20 MG AND I AM LOSING MY HAIR! Its insane how much hair is coming out of my head and its a noticeably different texture. Obviously I need to stop taking it. I have very good nutrition habits......so it couldnt be that. the timing is right on as far as as when I started taking adderall. Is there noone else who has experienced this?

No not genetics AS WELL - that fits under testosterone.  Male pattern baldness is genetic and is when the body (through faulty genes) produces a testosterone biproduct that kills the follicles.  Same difference.

I also forgot another cause is raditation - that kills the fast growth cells first (why it works on cancer) - but I doubt seriously that it's the case unless you are playing with plutonium.

Cor blimey - LOL - that reminds me of a show in the 70s called "dangermouse" - from the UK and had a character called penfold that said that. We got that in Canada and I never missed an episode.  Bloody funny!!!!

Ya see...?   So it wasn't all in my head, or on it...Is it a rarity to lose your hair or what?  I think you did an ever-loving job of 'splaining (as always) Glen, but the thing is, it may be due to stims or it may be natural for me (to admit that almost physically hurts). Allow me to expound...See, the thing is, I am 36 and look really young for my age and not to sound as if I'm boasting (believe me, my point merits it), but I am kind of on the good-looking side and I suppose I am somewhat vain at times.  And I just wanted someone to say, "Hey Louis, it's not you or heredity, but it's them meds!  I can say this now because I am through with denying it as I am more interested in solutions.   I also happen to take Lamictal and Wellbutrin XL as well...could that be the culprits?  In any case, I can't afford a dermatologist right now and my top isn't terribly thinned where it's super obvious.  But one thing remains, short of plugs, I will try anything.  Aren't there some pills out there that work?  Minoxdyl?  I hear they accidentally found that it grows hair as it was used to treat something else.  By any chance, does anyone know what that treatment was?  Kind of interesting to find out.  And what is up with alopecia pills?  And that one topical treatment that grows hair...does that work?  Anyone know?  And lastly, on the whole hair topic, I heard that Judy Garland, who was taking some type of speed regularly lost her hair.  Okay, one more on the hair.  Hey, Adderral lady, how old are you and from what area of your scalp are you thinning?

Besides all that, it seems like the Ritalin La 40 mg that I take is doing okay although sometimes I feel like double-dosing.  Shall I ask me Dr. to give me a higher dose?  Is higher than 40 not a good thing?  I have to watch what I say to my Dr. as I used to abuse meth and she knows it but the good thing is that I don't have that desire to over-do for some speed buzz.  I mean, isn't that what Adderall XL is for(trying to be funny)?  Besides, it's totally different, at least to me.

I just want to end this post by telling you all out there that I've just started doing yoga like three days ago (doing a 28 day plan), and I love it!  I think it's good for my adhd and helps the meds, also.  Anyone agree?  Any and all replies will only be saving my life.  Thank you!
