I am moving this post here at jfla2's request....
Isn't it great when they discover their 'niche'? My oldest daughter, aged 26, was ADD her whole life, but her parents were too ignorant (my husband and I) to figure it out and get her the help she needed. She took it upon herself as an adult and got the dx. Before this time, she had several jobs that never lasted very long, and of course, it was always someone else's fault that she lost the job.
Then 3 years ago, she started her own dance studio in our tiny town. There was nothing of the kind in our town, I drove both of my girls to dance a half hour away for more years than I care to count.
She is finally doing something that she is passionate about and it is going well. We bought an old Masonic Lodge right off of the town square and built an apartment on the 2nd floor for her and her hubby and kids to move into. She does the dance teaching on the 1st floor, and the both the business and her hubbies income pay the mortgage and the utilities, making their expenses easier to handle as opposed to renting a house elsewhere. Our 19 year old daughter who is a sophomore in college (1 hour away) comes home one night a week to teach some classses as well, then spends the night here and drives back for class the next day.
It is so rewarding to see all of the money we spent on dance lessons paying off! Seriously, between the 2 girls, they did dance for over 25 years! At at least a month per girl....per class...and sometimes they were taking 3...even with the discount for multiple classes...my head swims when I attempt the math, so I don't! And that isn't counting the costumes, shoes, etc.
Beaming right along with ya!
