My son 10 yrs is on 36 mg concerta, I also give him magnesium and melatonin at night to help him sleep and omega 3 mood in the morning. He can have several days where he does wonderfully and then several days where he makes us nuts. I know kids all have bad days and good days, but it is extremes!! He will be just nasty, defiant mean and generally silly annoying You know the types of goofyness that never stops. Other days he is the model child, comes home does his homework etc. Dx by school psych was mod to severe ADHD, I have an appt with him for neurologist on Nov 15th. He also sometimes says that he doesn't want to take his meds he says "I want to have fun" He apparantly doesn't have fun on the meds??
Thanks for all your help, I read the different experiences and it is nice to know that others experience the same or similar things.
I'm still new to all this and trying to figure it all out, but I wonder if maybe these down times happen because their seratonin gets out of whack. The meds help them with dopamine and norepinephrine, but not seratonin, and I just wonder if the imbalance is what causes this. I wonder if it would help to give them some carbohydrates or dairy products, which make seratonin. Maybe it would help to have him drink a glass of milk, or have some good old Kraft macaroni and cheese, or something like that. I don't know. Does anybody know??
