Does adhd and aggressive come together? | ADHD Information

My eight-year-old son was just diagnosed with ADHD and doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body.  He's one of the most easy-going, happy-go-lucky kids I've ever met.  He also doesn't have mood swings or emotional outbursts.  He just talks incessantly, can't sit still and has a hard time paying attention unless he's really interested.

it depends what type he is ,my son is impulsive inattentive ADHD.,we had the destructive and aggressive problems mainly due to frustration and most of the time towards his sister(apparently ADHD kids don't do well with siblings)thank god she is 6 years older.

it also came from the fact he was tired as he had BIG problems sleeping,he is better now with melatonin and less aggresive.

the big problem we have with him is he has no sense of danger, the ER is my second home.

I've never been agressive (well, until I had a period as a UN soldier at 26, that triggered something in me), quite the opposite. But I've always been in "opposition" with problems towards authorities....

Hi puppyhome4you

My ds talks non-stop, yells, is impulsive and totally hyper.  Other kids have been accidentally hurt by him because he often does not pay attention when he is flailing around doing his own thing (today he had to write an apology note for accidentally smacking a girl while he was spinning around).  He is definitely not aggressive on purpose.

On the plus side, the teacher and school pshychologist said his non-stop talking in class has content to it and is usually relevant to the topic LOL.

Love the positive spin on that one...my guy just talks non stop when he is not on his medicine.  He is a lovable little man and his teachers have always loved him, just get frustrated when he wasn't 'working to his potential'

Hi there.  My 7yo daughter was just diagnosed a week ago with ADHD.  She is not at all aggressive.  She is impulsive, ALWAYS on the go, very fidgety & can't sit still & talks all of the time.

Hi puppyhome4you, Your son sounds alot like mine and he is not at all aggessive...he is just impulsive and a bit hyper and talks alot.  Some kids have co-morbid of ODD along with the ADHD.

It is a symtom that comes with ADHD, not that they all have it. There really is a quite a few behaviors that fall under ADHD. My son doesn't break things. But, he does get physical at times.. He is more of a yeller when he is in an over stimulated type of situation.

I think that just as in everything else, every child will have different levels of aggression, from off the scale to nonexhistent.  And children can be very aggressive and not have ADHD.  Just be thankful that you and your son do not have to deal with that issue  .

Hello.  My son was diagnosed one week ago with adhd.  I was wondering if adhd children are always aggressive and destructive because my son wasn't.  He has always just been hyper and easily distracted if there was something more interesting for him to be doing.  Just wondering about everyone's opinion on this...
