Improving Memory | ADHD Information
Try doing logic problems. They do wonders for working memory (e.g. being able to follow the steps of a math problem) ... Taking notes is a good accomodation for yourself, but not an intervention (something aimed to change rather than to accomodate for your disability ). I have a hard time keeping up w/ a lot of characters in books so I make myself lists and write little notes about each of them. Can't say I've ever tried any of the options you have listed, but when speaking with doctors, I have been told that logic puzzles, riddle and most word games are great for enhancing the memory. Basically, you have to keep pushing the envelope with your memory's ability ... Try a little bit more each time. I mean, quiz yourself on things if you have to and try to get things into your long-term memory (It's like if you had a geography quiz in junior high -- can youreember the stuff a week from then or just during the test?) ... Reading is good, too, anything that isn't mindless like TV. What exactly do you have the most problem with memory?
And, why not get diagnosed? If you know you have it and are on a message board like this, you can see that others have had wonderful results with medication. I can honeslty say that taking meds boosts my memory - but only while they are working (although that was more at first -- my memory and ability to maintain attention etc has gotten easier when off meds since they do have the tendency to help change your brain chemistry ...)
Take care!
As an undiagnosed adult with ADD, I am looking for ways to improve my memory and recall. Since I am not diagnosed, I cannot benefit from any medication. BUT tell me, does it help with memory anyway?
Anyone try hypnosis? Vitamins? Exercise?
What has worked for you in improving your memory?
