Med Question, please help! | ADHD Information

I am a 23 year old female and was perscribed adderall xr 10mg for the first
time last week. My doctor said to call in 2 weeks if I didn't feel anything
different, well I don't feel anything different and I cannot study at all, should
I call today and ask for a higher dose? Shouldn't it work as soon as you take
it?

Also, it is like 0 a month even with my insurance, does anyone know of
any other meds that insurance companies are more receptive too, she said I
could also try ritalin, concerta, or focalin? (I think those are the names)

Thank you!Scooba

Adderall efficacy is dose dependant so may or may not be at the correct dose. 10mg of XR is the lowest dose that you can take. You are only getting 5mg of the med over around 8 hrs (5mg the first half an 5mg the second half). Asking to increase dose is appropriate as long as you are not experiencing any side effects. If you doctor does increase your dose you should stay at that does for at least a week. While Adderall does work right away there are a variety of factors whicg can effect how well it's working (sleep, nutrition, stress, etc).

For a cheaper alternative ask for a generic version of instant release Adderall. The downside is that it only works for about 4 hours. However I prefer that because I can better manage when I need the  benefit.
