Hi Brenda R.
My daughter has been taking Metadate CD for a month now. HUGE DIFFERENCE! It's been a life saver! The only side effect we have had is a VERY slight decrease in appetite. That's it. I got her progress report from school the other day and her teacher wrote that she has greatly improved in all areas. I was overjoyed! It made me feel so good about my decision to medicate.

My 12 y.o. daughter was just prescribed Metadate CD for ADHD/mood disorder. We have tried just about every drug there is with no success and unwanted side effects. Adderall was successful for 9 months, then she seemed to get extremely irritable with it and every drug since then has either done that to her and/or does not help at all. I have tried to look this medication up and they refer to it with Ritalin alot. I'm wondering if this is actually Ritalin by a different name??? Does anyone know anything about this drug? Or have you tried it? Thanks! Brenda
Thank you both for your replies. We'll start it tomorrow. I'll let you know.
hi- my son who is 9 has been on Metadate CD for 3 years now- very little side effects, except for lack of appetite at lunch--he makes up for it at dinner-- we started at 15 mg, increased to 20 and are now at 30-- before we went to 30 dr suggested we try concerta, it might last longer- well, the side effects he had were really scary, he was really agitated, completely lost his appetite and was acting not like himself at all. Metadate seems to take the edge off, if you know what i mean- we actually know it works because for the few days he wasn't on anything the school called and asked if we did anything different- he had a really bad couple of days med free. good luck.
It is Methylphenidate which is what Ritalin & Concerta is but just in different form from my understanding.
This first web site does a pretty good job of explaining the differences.

Hope the links help.
Brenda,
My almost 11 yr. old DD will be starting Metadate CD sometime in the next few days. I filled the prescription today. Now I just have to find the courage to start giving it to her. The only other thing we have tried for the ADD so far is Concerta for about 10 days back in May. It did nothing for her. Good luck to you and your DD. I'll be watching to see how it goes for you, as I muster up the courage to try it for my DD too!

My daughter (age 6) started 10 mg of Metadate CD last Saturday. It seemed to be working really well (Monday, first day in school with the meds, I got a really GOOD report sent home from school which was a first!) but then today I got a report from school that today was a really, really bad day for her behavior-wise (not obeying, threatening, bullying, being removed from gym due to her behavior in there). I feel defeated again. Also, it seems that while it was working in school, by the time she came home, it seemed like it had worn off and the rest of the day/evening was a struggle. So I don't know what the next step will be.
