a fairly good day w/o meds | ADHD Information
That is great news jfla...our doc says that it does get better and she thinks my little guy is less hyper than 2 years ago. Thanks for sharing
Monday my 18 year old forgot and did not take any Ritalin until he got home from school. I asked for input from his six teachers and I was so encouraged to hear that he was engaged, on task and the mainstay of a discussion without any observed signs of hyperactivity. One year ago the teachers said that he was fidgety and bouncing off the walls when he missed his afternoon dose. Since summer, i've noticed that much of the hyperactivity has disappeared. The doc said that it never totally goes away. It may come through as foot tapping etc. My dad used to drum his fingers on a table or jingle change in his pocket.
While he appeared alright on the surface, ds confided that it was more difficult because he couldn't concentrate. He seemed to think that the lack of concentration was due more to the inner activity of thought and not due to outer distractions.
He also wasn't sure if he missed homework or announcements, but checked teacher blogs online and checked with other students after school.
Physically, I could tell the moment I saw him that he hadn't taken his meds because of his wavering often drunk looking body posture and movement.
While it is apparent to me at home, it is good to know that in a structured environment he can hold it together.
jfla239022.6587962963Ayear ago I thought OMG how is he ever going to function as an adult if he is not on meds...and with his memory for actually taking them...yikes...
but you know... things do get better
That's great jfla! Glad to hear it. Glad he had a good day even without his meds.
