Question about Tenex | ADHD Information

Share

I read these boards frequently, but have never posted :)

My 7 yr old son is currently on 40mg of Adderall XR.  His hyperactivity has diminished, but we are still having problems in the classroom with distractibility and impulsivity.  We are also having trouble all around with failure to get along with his peers.  He is very respectful to adults, but he is very bossy with his peers and  treats his peers as though he is an adult.  I am afraid he will not have any friends at all by the time he reaches 3rd grade.

I have read about adding Tenex to their current stimulate meds. for various reasons and was wondering if any of you have experience with doing such.

Thank you in advance for any input!

My daughter is on guanfacine (Tenex) and concerta. Guanfacine is a blood pressure med that has been used off label for ADHD symptoms. It can reduce hyperactivity, help with sleeping, weight issues, defiance, impusivity, but not attention (in the early studies). Shire has recently submitted clinical trial data for a long acting form of Tenex alone for ADHD (indicating that the data probably supports this use) and are starting one for ADHD + ODD. My daughter had guanfacine added for weight issues, because the doctor did not want to increase the concerta while my daughter was losing weight, so he added the guanfacine to help. Vickie,

Thanks so much for the links....I will check them out after the kids are in bed:)

Those are great links. Thanks. I am considering guanfacine for my 3 year old son because of his aggressive and impulsive behaviors at school. Because of growth and weight issues with stimulants I am leaning towards guanfacine. My daughter takes it in the evening to help with rebound and sleep.
