Dear friends:
I have bee writing a lot lately because as many of you know I seem to be through the rollercoaster many of you talk about.
My son has been on strattera for about 4 months. Apparently at school ( in the mornings) he his doing fine, just as a regular kid. But it is making me extremely nervous and desperate the events that are happening when he gets home from school ( I even start to get anxious when it is almost time for him to arrive). Just yesterday was another terrible day. Homework issue brought him kincking doors, yelling, and throwing things (pencils, erasers, colors, books all over the floor). I lost control and could not contain myself to cry..
Is it strattera? Anyone on strattera with a similar experience? Why is he ok in the mornings and then in the afternoons becomes a total mess?. I was told and have also read that strattera should work for 24 hours. Why is he becoming so violent and rebellious at home?
Probably some of you would suggest me to ask the doc to try a different med, the problem is that my son has tic periods and stimulants worsen them.
Thanks for your time!
Hi there. DD was on Strattera for about 6 months. We added in an afternoon dose. We finally were giving her a very high dose, and she was just as you say--terrible after school. Really bad. At that point I couldn't take it any more and we added in Concerta. Afternoons were still VERY bad--rebound. So we added ANOTHER short-acting stimulant for after school. Better, but not perfect.
Ultimately, we dropped Strattera since we saw no benefits. Concerta also turned out not to be the right med for her.
Maria,
