I belong to CHADD even though I don't have time to go to support meetings. (They would be great but are on a weeknight- as a mom to an adder I am busy most weeknights!) But I still belong because they are the only organization I know of that advocates for people with adhd. I mean I don't really see anybody holding bake sales or having fun runs to support adhd research. So belonging to CHADD is my way of trying to be part of an organization that works for all with adhd.
Hello,
I am interested in how many people on here are members of CHADD.
Do you find this organization helpful? Have you been to their conferences (National and/or regional). What is your overall opinion?
I am thinking about attending national conference next year in Crystal City, VA.
Thank you for all replies!
I am a member, I like the journals that they send....I have never been to a conference before but maybe I will go to the one next year if I can get child care.i recently joined this as well and i've started to read the literature that was mailed to me this week. i'd love to attend the support groups, but they are once a month on a night of the week that is hard for me, and also across town:(
i read their message board a bit, but not as much as here. i'd like to start a small support group on this side of town and if i read it right they will help mail you the literature to get a group started. i hope to check into that more.

I want to be involved but there are no local chapters here in Buffalo. We have an active CHADD organization in my town (suburb of Chicago), and I found a monthly support group through them, as well. I love it. The meetings are always informative (on meds, discipline, school, etc.) and I've heard good things about the conferences. The bonding and sharing at our monthly support group meeting is so valuable.I recently joined CHADD and went to their conference in Chicago last month. It was an amazing conference. The depth and breadth cover is amazing. The hardest part is choosing which sessions you want to attend because there are so many that are compelling that are given at the same time. It was well worth the time and expense for me.I just joined also. How long does it take to get anything from them? I haven't received the guide or anything from them yet.Is it worth it to join or go to meetings? My sons dr recommended and gave me info. Being new to this all I am clueless
They have a local support group not too far from my house so I may consider this thenI Joined last year and only attended a few parent support group meetings, the monthly meeting on research topics were too far from my home and on a weeknight so I never attended them. These information meetings looked quite interesting. Additionally, the CHADD publications ( I got several over the year) are typically quite informative, helpful, and contain the latest research on ADHD. I think joining CHADD is a good idea especially if you are new to this.
