I think my 11yrold has ADHD | ADHD Information

My 11 year old son has ALL the signs of ADHD(inattention).  He just started middle school in September.  He is very unorganized, incomplete work, not following through.  Must be told at least 3 times everyday to do the same thing.  The list can go on and on.  I need some advice from the experience parents who have gone through this already. I have a list of questions

Where do I get him evaluated to verify if he has ADHD?  My pediatrician said to go to a Neuralogist, the nurse at the Neugalogist office told me I need to see a Pedidatric Psychiatrist.  Normally how long is the process from start to finish for doctor to conclude whether he has it or not?

My husband is so against meds to treat ADHD.  What other options are there?

All suggestions will help me. This is ALL new to me.  I really have not started my own research yet, so I would appreciate all you can give me!!!

Thanks

For evaluation, we went to a child psychiatrist, who also manages the meds. Many folks here have also been to a neuropsychologist or neuropsychiatrist for evaluation. If there are school issues (behavior or learning), you can try to get accomodations from the school through an IEP or 504 (see wrightslaw.com for help). Also look at the marble thread at the top of this forum for a positive reinforcement behavior plan. Everyone is different in what works for them and at this site, you will find alot of help. We had some success with the above, but in our case, it was not quite enough (she was struggling just to get Ds and Fs). So over the summer we started meds and now she gets As and Bs and is a much happier child and the anxiety and depression of failure have disappeared (as has my husband's resistance to using meds).vickie39023.4165393518

Dear dee3gr8kids, I'm in the same situation darling. I already took my 11yo DD to the Psiquiatrist and he recomended meds but first he want to do some test and then he will decide. My husband does not agree on any of this, but my dd has been struggling with school since she was in 1st grade, and now it is worse. I'm not going to stop and will go all the way for my children.

On Nov 16 I have my second app. to see what the Dr. will recommend Iam  pretty sure that she is ADHD, my younger DS is ADHD I have read so much about it.
