i asked a lot of questions on the thread titled HELP-who should be prescribing meds? i hope that many of you will take the time to read them and offer advice:)
another question that i forgot to ask is "who has tried strattera with your child taking this at night vs. the morning?" just curious. how did this work?

My son is on Strattera, and we have always given it to him in the mornings. He was very tired the first day, and over that weekend, but that was it..he does get a bit of a stomach ache from it.. but, we are continuing with it.We tried it at night. What happened was, he was prescribed 25 mgs and we gave it in the morning, but that made him feel so weak and tired that I just stopped it and tried to find other alternatives. When they didn't really work enough to keep him out of trouble, I tried again with the Strattera but only gave about 1/4 of it and gave it around 5 PM. I opened the capsule and dumped out about 3/4 of it and then put the capsule back together. He tolerated that just fine and it didn't interfere with his sleep, so after a couple of days on just 1/4 a capsule, I bumped him up to 1/2 capsule for a few days. That went well so I started giving 3/4 and then the full capsule. But after 2 days of getting the full capsule, the weakness and tiredness came back and he hated it. He even asked to go back to the doctor to try something else. So Strattera didn't really work out for us, but you can certainly try giving it at night, or ramping up slowly to see what happens. You aren't supposed to open the capsule because the medicine inside is irritating if you were to get it in your eyes, so be careful to wash your hands if you try that route. My son had very bad stomach aches with it and would vomit about 3 times a week while on it. he also had very bad head aches with it. the with draws coming off of it were horrific. Good luck I hope it works better for your child than it did for us. all meds work differently for each person.
just watch out for stomach aches, depression, isolation, over tiredness and the shakes.
When my son started strattera the doctor told me to start it at night because he wanted to make sure my son would tolerate it and wouldn't have stomach problems. He tolerated it and the only thing I noticed is that he had sleep and mood issues. He usually became very sad at nights. After a month he started it in the mornings but I am still not happy with this med.
