I had my DD's school conference yesterday and both her teachers said she is doing great academically in the first grade! She is right where she is supposed to be in some subjects and higher in others which is great! They both said she is definately learning and that she is very smart. Now to figure out what is going on with her emotionally. They, along with the principle, both agree (with her pediatrician) that she should see a psychologist because of her extreme mood swings both at school and here at home. We discussed a lot and I got more insight on how she is in school (which is pretty much the same as she is here). But it now has me thinking, what if it's not ADHD and something else....
Has anyone elses child been diagnosed with ADHD and then after seeing a psychologist, diagnosed with something else?
I got a referral for a psychologist through our insurance and now just waiting to hear back from him to get the appoitment set up. Her next appoitment with the pediatrician is set up and we will meet with the school again in a month. So we're getting things rolling but it's just so hard to be patient sometimes.
Thank you Vickie and Barb! We have an appoitment this week with a child psychologist so we'll see what he has to say.
It does sound like it could be early onset bipolar so its good that she is seeing a psych. It could be stress and anxiety though, which would improve once the meds help her have better control.
Hang in there. Once you get a handle on what is going on with her, you can hopefully get some of the extremes leveled out.
