well we started our first day of brain gym today.
My son is seven and has adhd as well as odd. he didnt have his meds this morning, and he did so fantastically. he never takes to a stranger, but he took to this lady right from the start. he did everything she asked with out a problem. the only problem we had was towards the end when he had had enough, but about an hour and a half i dont blame him.
They discovered he has a midline problem, as well as discovering that he is a true right brained child. which are extremly intellegent children, but they view the world in a very didfferent way, and learn in a very different way. so when i right brained child is taught in a left brained way, it makes for a very hard and confusing lesson.
but now we know the schools jumping on the band wagon, and helping work out the best way to teach him, for him. which is fantastic.
back on the brain gym, i thought i would have trouble getting him to do the exercises, but he loves doing them and all 3 kids join in. he has even put a photocopy of the exercises in his bag to show his teacher and he wants to do them at school. that is such a huge step for him, as he wont participate at school, cos of his low self esteam, so if he does do them at school, it will be fantastic.
but not only that he has been so good for the most of the day, but he has done it without tablets. he started getting over the top this afternoon after school time, so i gave him half a tablet to get him through. i dont know yet whether the exercises where partly responsible for his great behaviour, only time will tell for that. but today has been great for him, it is the first time in a long time i have seen him so happy for so much of the day.
if anyone is thinking of doing anything like this, brain gym is definately the way to go, its so much more adaptable to the kids that the dore program, its more personal (no big machines to scare the kids) and its so much cheaper. and they been around for 30 odd yrs.
anyway im off to find more info about ways to teach right brained kids. i think i can finally see that light at the end of the tunnel, its a long way off, but i can see it all the same.

I think what she means by right brained is that the child is a predoninantly visulal-spatial learner as opposed to sequential. People that are strong visual-spatial may do poorer in the early school years because school is taught sequentially. If you go to hoagiesgifted.org, there is a ton of information on this.

Linda Silverman has done alot of work in this area.
The area of the IQ test where the child does best can indicate the learning style.

hey everyone.. my name is lisa,, only just joined the web.. how are you all today?the thing you have to keep in mind with doing other exersices is that they have to be done in a certain order. like the way a baby does they start with rolling anthen crawling then walking.
if they are lacking in one reflex it can inhibit the proper use of an other. i hope that made sence.
i am having some fantastic results with my kids with doing these exercises. and its only the start, i cant wait till we get further along and we can take the kids off the meds.
Angel.
Angel where did you post links on right brained kids?
