concerta is a stimulant; Adderall is another stimulant. strattera is not. also, strattera is the only med suggested for adult AD/HD. i was diagnosed as an adult also. i've been on both concerta and strattera and concerta worked better for me. of course, i was taking zoloft for depression with the strattera... not good... anyhow! Like you, I need longer lasting meds. I get up at 7 am with my 1st grader and I'm normally up at midnight when my husband gets home. I work about 4-5 hours each night, and end up researching another 1-2 per day, as well as doing the office work that needs done all day too. I am going to see my doc on Friday and i'm hoping he can answer this question for me. I'm wondering if there is such a thing were you take a small dose in the morning and maybe another dose a few hours later. Concerta is time released, and that's why kids take it... so they don't have to take another dose at school, etc. ritalin is one that you may ask your doc about... you can take that one a few times a day... i believe.
i had nightmares while on strattera. it got so bad that i feared sleeping, so i just didn't sleep.... that was a BAD idea!
I was just suggesting repeating this post a little further down at the adult forum might bring more repsonses. Adderall is amphetamine salts and concerta is methylphenidate. Both are stimulants and can work (it is an individual thing). Some people use combo meds and you might even check out guanfacine (Tenex). It is not a stimulant and can be in the system all the time and augments the stim meds.

i am sorry, is this not the adult site? My P. wants me to go to 54 mg by this friday, but as i understand its only 12 hours, and as i first stated i need it 18 hours a day..... (the last 6 i hopefulle sleep). i have tried stratere 100 mg. it works great, but some things not too well. is it true that there is no drug other than stratera that works all day? do you know anything about Adderall rx?
Have you discussed your needs with your doctor? What issues are you concerned about at home? There are ways to taylor your meds for your needs. You might try the Concerta and see how it works and go from there.
For many, the goal is to have the meds out of the system so as to not interfere with sleep. For others, having meds on board at bedtime helps them go to sleep. If you are one of the latter, a second dose later in the day may be good. Otherwise, there are other meds to work with. You might want to post on the adult board to get more attention from those who have dealt with this.
Hi i am newly diagnosed ADHD. howenver ihave known for a while, but been in serious denial. i have been prescribed concerta, but worried it will only last 12 hours, so in other words, it will stop workig once i get home to my wife and 2 kids wherre its even more important that it work.
Does anyone have advice about what medine to take and this issue?
