New to Meds | ADHD Information

We just started meds this week too!  My 6 yo ds is on 5mg of Ritalin 2x a day.  We tried all sorts of behaviour modification plans, diet changes, DHA pills - nothing really helped.  This year in Grade 1 the behaviour issues really escalated, mostly due to recess time.  He spent more time in the office for "consequence time" than out on the playground.  We also had the same talks for several years with teachers, daycares etc. that maybe meds should be considered.

So far, we don't seem to have had any issues with the Ritalin.  I am interested in the effects of the Ritalin LA since our dr suggested we may want to switch to  the single dose Ritalin if our trial period works out.

Good luck

Moderate to sever ADHD

We are new too, have been on meds for our 5 year old for a bout a month.  The one thing that we noticed was a lot of ups and downs, and pretty severe rebound for the first week and a half.

Things seem a little better now, but we are still trying to get the right dosage.

Good luck, and welcome!

Hello! We are new to this as well. My daughter has been on meds for almost two weeks now. I've not seen much improvment at all unfortunatly. I've read a lot both here and other places on the web and it seems the meds are all trial and error. You have to find the right one to work for your child, which I guess can take months. Good luck.

Hello - I am very glad to find your board.  I have a six year old son that we have just started on Meds this past week.  I have advoided meds for a long time but decided it was in his best interest for school.   We have tried differnt diets and did see some improvments (not enough).  He is in Kindergarden now and was in PreK last year.  The teachers for the past two years have encouraged us to talk to our Doctor about medications.  Austin is a very busy boy and very happy!!  He is taking Ritalin LA 10.  The first day he seemed to be very angry and violent.  He was hitting his self and getting upset about everything.  I almost did not give it to him the next day.  However, I did, and he seems to be doing better.  I am very new to this can anyone give me advice?
