I am a 49yr.old ADHD non-medicated mother withan 11yr.old son with ADHDw/ODD! My mother and I have tried everything to get my son to do his school work! He is very smart and he knows the work ,he just won't do it? He has been at this small comm. school going on 6yrs. they all know him and love him. They say he is a joy to be around. He does great with one-on one teaching, if he does bring his homework home he either does it and forgets to turn it in or just doesn't do it at all. Any ideas on how I can get him to show these people just how smart he is? He flunked the PAWS test?!? On purpose!!
My daughter used to just fill in anything on tests because she had so much trouble getting through them and her frustration level was extreme.
Does you son have and IEP at school? If so does it include a behavior plan? Is he on any meds? More information would be helpful.
My daughter has a behavior plan and is now on meds; so she now gets As and Bs and homework is a breeze. This is a huge difference from last year's failures, defiance, anxiety and depression.
vickie39031.4068287037Vellore, you don't say whether your son is medicated or not. I'm assuming that he is, since unmedicated ODD isn't usually a "joy" to be around. I don't know what it might be, but I think the key for you is to find something that he truly values, that you can use as a motivator. Not as a punishment or something to be taken away, but something to be earned. Just a thought??
