You might suffer from what I do - blocked eustachian tubes. There's a tube from inside your middle ear to the back of the throat. If you are allergic to things, a smoker or have inherited a defect it can become seriously blocked. This tube relieves pressure caused by changing elevations. That's why you can feel better in a plane by holding your nose and blowing.
My MD has inserted a shunt in the tube before to open it. It dissolves eventually and may need to be done a couple of times but it's relatively painless though uncomfortable in the procedure. It's worth it if you feel that heavy squeezing pressure when changing elevation.
I feel it even driving on high mountain roads as I change elevation or when the barometer drops suddenly before a storm.
Hope this may help!
