sick to get out of class, I just put school instead of house...it works.
I had the same problem and the doctor my son goes to told me to do the following...and it isn't easy but it seems to be working.
Im in the uk & we dont have those med's, unless they are called something different?? angel_eyes, he is not on meds, we use other method's.
OH YES WE DO PETAL!!!
Jude has been on Melatonin for a couple of months after the doctor thought we were actually zombies. Without Melatonin and his bedtime routine Jude would still be sleeping for only four hours a day.
Although i dont mind admitting that a good bedtime routine works really well.
But if your child is so hyper that when he/ she finally crashes to sleep the few hours he/she has seems to super charge them, drawback is they can be a bag of anger and lash out continuously.

He!he!he!
sorry, that's just funny!!!
In the week day (school day) i have to drag the boys out of bed, on a week-end they are up WAY to early, like 4:30 ish on wards some mornings, on the evening my adhd child does'nt go to sleep until gone midnight, he will try to keep my other boy up also, but he falls asleep,My boys are the same. but they are 4 and 7, i put the younger one to bed first and then when he is asleep i put the older one to bed. to help with the problem of him going to sleep, maybe try a medtation cd that is for ADHD kids. it helps relax and calm them.
oh and the other thing is, (im asuming he is on meds) what time does he take his last dose and consider cutting that one out if it is possible. also try all the normal things like warm milo before bed, quiet time in the evening, warm shower.
The other thing i have done, is they have a tv and a dvd player in their room. i was finding that they were getting up and getting into mischief, so when we put the telly in he at least stayed in bed. i have also told him if he cant sleep he can watch 1 dvd and then he has to close his eyes and go to sleep.
Hope this helps
Angel.
My dd's doctor told me I could give her Melatonin. He said to give 1/2 tab (they are 3mg tablets & they can be crushed) 1 hour before bedtime.give them melatonin, up to 3 mg.You might want to read the other thread about 'Nighttime Hell' I just responded to. But, I understand what you are going through and it is so hard. My oldest takes Clonidine to sleep at night and it truly is a God send, but my youngest whom is 4 will not fall asleep until well past midnight, and if he falls alseep any sooner in the evening or takes a nap - he will be up well before he should and he won't want to go back to sleep. It is brutal during the school year when he won't go to bed until midnight or later and I have to get up around 6:00am to get the oldest boy to school and it is so hard to function on 5 or less hours of sleep a night. I am a single Mom and I start wearing down by Friday and by Saturday I'm feeling slightly homicidal.
Thank God for Sundays. That is the one day a week I have free. It isn't hardly enough, but it keeps me sane.
So, I don't really have any advice for you, but I just wanted to say that I understand how you feel. And that you aren't alone. Maybe you might talk to the child doctor about a prescrpition drug for getting to sleep if all else fails.
Melatonin works well for us.It isn't a med....it is a supplement, look in the vitamin/supplement aisle..I seem to think that I have seen scotmama mention using it too. It is something that your body produces naturally, but sometimes the levels aen't high enough. Here we can buy it in the dollar store, 75 pills (3mg) for .
They say that 1mg should be enough so you could theoretically cut them in half at least to try at first, but I would give Chase a whole one and it helped him to get drowsy.
Oh MY Gosh.. I understand where you are coming from! She would stay up around the clock with out night time meds (clonidine).... It was CRAZY!!! Banging crashing in and out of our room to the bathroom 29 times... a night
I bet you can find melatonin on ebay for export to the UK...? Sleep is so very important to these kids for acedemic performance. Now that she is in her 12th year and not hyperactive, but still ADD she is even higher in demand for sleep. She often begs to go to bed by seven in the evening many night! (a God send) I think the trying melatonin and the tranquil Cd's may help... anything stop their little racing minds and settle them to slumber...
Good luck and I wish you peaceful sleep

I want to add that Melatonin is over the counter. We are having some success w/ it with DD age 10 also.
