Welcome. You are not alone on this journey. First, I would suggest you see a child psychiatrist or neuropsychiatrist. They are generally better at sorting out the things that mimic or can be comorbid with ADHD. They are also more experienced with medication management. If your youngest is really ADHD and not bipolar or other mimicing condition, something like guanfacine or clonidine may be helpful. Below is a med chart just to give you an idea what is out there (it is from 2004 so does not have the daytrana patch):

For a more natural approach with the sleep, you may want to look into melatonin.
Hello everyone. I found this site while searching for some info to help me with my son. Brief history I have one son that was diagnosed with ADHD "in attention kind" last year, he also has mood disorder, depression, and is doing horrible in school, getting IEP. My next son, the one I'm worried about, was also diagnosed with ADHD "the hyper kind" and is busy all the time. VERY difficult for him to sit still even at a meal, homework is horrible here at home. However his 1st grade teacher does not have this problem with him like this. He is quickly falling behind in reading/letters/comprehension though.
After being Diagnosed with the adhd the peditrician Rx'd him Concerta 18 mg. I gave him the first dose and he had a severe reaction, within 2 hours he was hallucinating severely, had to go via ambulance to intensive care, he had to stay basically in a medical coma for 3 days, he was in the hospital for 5 days total. Each time the Valium wore off he would starting seeing things and freaking out again and again.
This was at age 5 (last year) issues now is it's getting so much worse. He's not sleeping, he's awake and just doing nothing, not sitting still, can't just lay there, school work can't even start to get done here at home. He is getting worse by the day.
Anyone else have issues w/ medication like this? I know his dr. told me he couldn't obviously have a time released stimulant drug. But then my oldest son's psychiatrist put him on Strattera and told me a drug like that would not work for my youngest son, with the hyper part.
I'm so confused and can't get into see a new dr. for over 2 months and I'm wanting to learn all my options asap.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
