Wow, sorry about the Dr. I did alot of cocaine in College, and when i went in and got diagnosed, my Dr. was asking me how i felt on it and everything, and that actually HELPED me be diagnosed because he said the affects it had on me were very similar as to waht ADHD meds would have on me. He said i was "self medicating." it's also pretty well known that people with undiagnosed ADHD and ADD are more likely to have substance abuse problems because they are trying to feel "normal." Sounds to me like you need a second opinion from another Dr. Good Luck!Good luck and hang in there!!!!
hi all
well my 1st appointment my doctor has refered me to a phycitrist
she asked me loads of questions about when i was younger i was really truthful and told her everything only for her to say that it cud be down to the drug abuse when younger i totely disagree with her but i never said anything
so now i have to wait for more appointment will post back
I would tend to disagree with her also after making an assumption from just talking to you. My husband was dx with ADHD as a child and given Ritalin - not really sure how long, but I strongly feel his parents had no clue about ADHD and eventually quit his meds (I'm thinking he only took them for a short time). He was very troubled in his teens and early 20's and got into drugs/trouble.
I myself have never been around drugs and didn't know about his past - I think that is what helped him quit. He didn't have the pressure and he didn't have to try and "make-up" for his past faults. I think kids who don't get any help to deal with ADHD (medicated or not) can easily take the wrong path because they feel different and want to "run away" or they just want to fit in. My husband still shows classic symptoms of ADHD and is somewhat in denial because he fears taking stimulants due to his past.
I'd definitely see someone else. Best of luck to you.
