Hmmm MC I'm not sure where you are from... But I would be very upset with the school Department for only having one nurse for all schools? Just because one nurse was bad does not mean the next will not be excellent!
... also the school board member is bound by oath of office to not release information to the public... It might have only happened one time (people do exagerate) and yes one time is bad enough... but to be a public official and let loose these details is unforgivable. ... and if you want to push getting new school nurse in real quick
I'd have a little meet and greet with that school board member and put a lil fear of God in them! I bet that member would propose two school nurses in each school to avoid being outed and fired from the board.
...for the big mouths that hang out in the office... This could be hindering the delicate social balance of any office and may have lead to many problems that occurred with that nurse.... "ie" notes go to the secretary then to the nurse not getting to the right place at the right time... well if the big mouths are flapping their gums and stopping production this may have caused many of the incidents.
This is your child's school just as much as it is BMMs child's school! I realize that you care about what others things... heck, who doesn't! But if those Big Mouth MOMS! are hurting your son well Go gettum' Lady!
When the years dwindled on and we are old and gray... the only one who really matters is your son who
will know you cared more about him, then what others might have thought of you...
... I read back through and all sounded a bit harsher then I intended, I truly respect a person who has self dignity, as you do! I just get so very mad at BAD school systems... I hope you can find it within yourself to tackle all of the meanies who are not doing the job correctly! and stop the BMMs from stinking up the system and hurting your son and perhaps many others.
Many Many Hugss... I know you must be battling inside... But hey, when do we have a time in life that we don't? I hope you are blessed with an excellent resolution! If you need to talk or get some great information on the school board issue please PM me I would love to help you!
Good luck
That might be our next step. He picks when he's on the Concerta and fidgets here and there so I was thrilled when he had none of that on the Focalin. He actually sat through an hour long mass yesterday and seemed so calm but happy, without losing his personality. With the Concerta, he would sit there calmly but would look like he was signaling to the catcher.
Our ped is not comfortable going up to 54 so she suggested a combination of 27mg and 18 mg for a total of 45.
Thanks for your input!
hmmm...mine went straight from 36mg to 54...wonder if I should ask her about that combo?? My son just does not eat on the concerta, it is really the only negative side effect that I can see, and presumably a lower dose may help that....Have you tried a higher dose of the concerta? I ask because my son had been on 54mg of concerta and except for appetite issues, was doing very well. The dr and I decided to try a lower dose of concerta to see if it helped the appetite issues...and it wears off too soon at about 5-6 pm as opposed to my not noticing when it wore off on the 54mg...also my son has told me that "he didn't think the 36mg was going to work" because "I can't stay as calm with it as I could on the 54mg." He is 10 and very aware of how the drug helps him.
The higher dose may very well last longer and do a better job than the lower one....who knows
We decided to give Focalin XR a try, taking a break from Concerta 36mg. We did this Saturday and Sunday and it worked great but lasted no where near as long as they said it would. This is the extended release, 20 mg, and it only lasted 3 hours. He has a very fast metabolism. He does o.k. on Concerta but that was lasting only 6 hours.
No side effects what so ever with the Focalin. I wish it would have lasted longer.
We're running out of options. And taking a second dose of medication at school is not an option for us - especially after hearing a school board member (at a bunco game) tell someone how they had to fire the nurse because she kept giving kids the wrong meds. We are now without a nurse - the schools in our district share one nurse. I am not comfortable with someone giving my son medication. And there is absolutely no privacy. The "big mouth moms" who are at school every day for one thing or another, like to hang out in the school office. I know I shouldn't care what other people think but I do.
Thanks for reading!
