Oh what a relief it is!!
AFter our little episode last week where we think our son possibly cracked open some of the extended release caplets when swallowing (we were breaking open the pills and putting in applesauce) and got too much meds right away, and not enough later in the day, we practiced pill swallowing Friday night. He caught on right away, and has taken his pills by mouth for the last three days!!
We used soda, and cut up pieces of fruit chews for practice. AS soon as he got those, then I broke off pieces of pretzel sticks. He is still taking the pills with root beer..not sure what it is but the carbonation seems to help. Or else he is just excited to get soda in the morning.
Yea!! Root beer to the rescue! Good news! One less thing to worry about. Success!! That is great. My son couldn't swallow pills. I would like to try again. We used peach sauce from Trader Joes. My son despised the apple sauce. FANTASTIC!I feel like Merry Poppins, just a spoon ful of sugar helps the medicine go down, medicine go down.
The peach sauce has sugar. I hope someday my son can take meds.
I'm happy for you! Great news.
That is AWESOME! My son can not swallow pills. He will only take it on a spoon filled with chocolate milk. We tried yogurt and choc. pudding but he refused to swallow it (dont really understand why).
I am a little confused though - If they do not swallow it in pill form does the extended release not work the same? Or is it that you thought he chewed the capsules? So far we are on 10 mg and seeing GREAT improvement.
Good Luck with the pill swallowing.....practice makes perfect! I could not swallow pills until around the age of 17 - it was hard.
The medicine is extended. My son is warned not to chew the capsules. He swallows the medication from the peach sauce. He is on Adderall XR.
That is so great!! We only conquered it for 1 day. Now we are putting it on yogurt & that seems to be working. I even got the pill cup to help but dd is afraid to try it, she seems to think she is going to choke.
Anyway, excellent job!!
Great news!
Now I'm hungry/thirsty (?) for a root beer float - and it's cold out there!
