I can’t take it anymore..... | ADHD Information

Discussing the pros and cons of medication with his doctor is a good idea.  The "Ritalin patch" (Daytrana) might be an alternative for your son.  Some people cut off a bit of it later in the day when they feel that they don't need to concentrate so much and it may lighten up the personality.  My son was irritable on Concerta too.  He likes Ritalin LA better. He tried the patch but got red welts and quit.  He is 18, ADHD. I have no experience yet with a teenager on ritalin.  I am sure some one here does.  I have known people and kids (other than my own) who stopped taking it as a teenager because it made them feel worse.  Have you discussed this with his doctor?  Asked your son if it is making him worse or it isn't working now that he is a teenager?  One person I know when they reached puberty the ritalin made them even more hyper.  Or is there things like video games, computer time, or go some place he like to go  that you could take away for not taking meds?  I have a 12 year old and I can only really punish him by denying priviliges.  Is there a computer game, video game, or something else that he wants that you can use as bribery to get him to take med?   Hi Friend-
I too am the parent of a fifteen yr old who doesn't like
to take meds. He tells me he enjoys being happy
and outgoing-his meds make him grouchy and
irritable(Concerta).
Maybe if you don't feel comfortable "making" him take
it by yourself perhaps consider this-two adults are
better than one. If you are single, ask to have a
meeting with his MD,your teen, and yourself.
Also being on Ritalin for a long time is
concerning-sometimes it loses it efficacy after a long
time, and the meds need to be changed

The Daytrana patch is not supposed to be cut, but removed when people feel they will not need it as long. It still works for 3 hours after removal.

However, during the med trials they DID have us cut them, use half, use whole cut patch etc. And there were no problems.

PLEASE DO NOT CUT YOUR PATCHES if that is what you meant jfla2. The instructions clearly say do not cut!!

My Mom's Fentenyl patch says the same thing and this is what gives medicines and in this case patches a bad name. When peope use it improperly.  My doctor explained why there have been deaths associated with the Fentanyl patch...because people cut it and then it release dangerous levels of the medicine. PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR IF THE DOSAGE ISN'T CORRECT ON THE PATCH.

If you didn't mean that sorry....but I just wanted to be sure someone else didn't misinterpret what you said.

Hi Everyone,

I have a 15 year old son who is ADHD. To make an extremely long story short. He has been taking Ritilan for many years now.  It help's him so much. My problem at this age is that he doesn't want to take it and fights me every nite. I can't handle it anymore, the arguing, my health. I just don't know what to do to have him take his afternoon meds. Does anyone have any suggestions?  Oh  time release med's don't work for him.  Do vitamins help?

Thanks
