Chase is HUNGRY!!!! | ADHD Information

Wow this is great news Chaesmom....I will keep this inmind if my little guy starts to lose weight again...

I find most the useful info comes from other parents . Why don't the doctors tell us this stuff????

Maybe they figure that if we come to them in near hysterics over our children looking anorexic, it must really be true???  Maybe they don't want the seed put into our mind, so that we will try every natural method before we ask for drugs?  Who knows, but I am so glad that that other mom (piggurl) brought this to my attention, it has been a real blessing!!

When I called the apediatrician about it the nurse who looked it up actually said that they give it to anorexic patients and ...the elderly, so I would say it is worth a try at least.

Very inexpensive as well....I don't have prescription coverage and I get it for .86 for a months supply.  That is Walmart's price and my pharm matches it.

I am so happy for the both of you. Thats really a big deal. I am very excited for you. Keep up the good work, Chase!

That's awesome! I'm glad for Chase and EXTRA glad for you knowing this may be a big relief on your worries - YAY!!!!

I agree...I think that it affects moms more in that we worry when we see them not eating...if they are not hungry and no one is asking (begging, ordering, bartering with) them to eat...they are not going to obsess over it.

It is the fact that mom is worried and telling them that they must eat that upsets them (with them thinking.."how can I eat when I am not hungry?")

So, he is happy and proud thinking that he has done this on his own.  And I am able to relax now that he is eating more than enough to sustain a bird...I don't really even care if he gains any measurable weight, I just want him to eat healthy portions and be happy while doing so.

BTW the periactin also is a big help with his sleeping, he says that he is sleeping really well with it, though it does not affect his waking hours.  I guess that it is enough to help him go to sleep and stay deeply asleep when he is trying, but does not make him drowsy all day.

So this drug is a 3-fer!  Appetite, allergies and sleep all rolled into one!

I think I may look into that for my Mom. She is currently on an allergy pill including steriods (with helps with her appetitie) but this may be something she could take instead of steriods. I'll ask her doctor about it. Glad you posted about it...it is always nice to learn about alternative choices to the meds prescribed.

How wonderful to hear that! You just share your wins anytime. We love to hear them.

Wow! That is terrific news! Keep eating Chase!

Ok for those of you that have read about Chase's struggles with appetite while on Concerta, I have news!!  And I know that I am WAY more excited about this than any of you, but that is ok...LOL

I started him on the periactin on Wednesday evening, and have waited with baited breath since hoping that it is going to give him back his appetite.  I thought that I saw signs on the weekend over which I gave him his meds. (I usually do not medicate on the weekends to get him to eat).  But I really kept second guessing myself, figuring that it was wishful thinking on my part.  He still is unaware that the pill he is taking is for anything other than his allergies...which by the way are cleared up as well!!

He had an after school program at which he says that they made PB & J sandwiches for snack and "They were goood!"  So I am assuming that he ate at least some of it...at home he never eats any after school snack.  He walked to my daughters dance studio afterwards, where I was taking care of my grandkids while she taught dance.  He was bubbling over with excitement about the woodworking that he is learning.  I told him that I had picked up Chinese food for dinner (one of his favorites) and that he could choose between Teriyaki chicken or sweet and sour chicken to which he replied...."Can't I choose both?  I am starving!"  He usually can't be talked into dinner before 7 pm at the earliest and this is 5:40.

No problem! I dish him up generous helpings of both, and engage him in conversation about the sawing, glueing and nailing that he did at the after school program, while he FINISHES IT ALL!!!

Then he finished up his homework, played with his nephew and nieces a little while, and about 15 minutes before we were due to leave he says "Mom, when are we going home?  I am still hungry and I want something covered in chocolate!!"  It is about 8:15 at this time.

Hallelujah!!!  We made a detour through the McDonald's drive through for a hot fudge sundae, which he finished too.

An after school snack (however small) a good dinner, and a bedtime snack while on his meds...paydirt, no question.

Let's hope it holds.....

Excellent!  I'll keep you in my prayers.  I find that's something that helps us a whole lot.  Aren't those wins (big and small) a blessing? I'm so glad Chase is eating!!!  Hopefully, he keeps up the appetite!
