I’m cross with the teacher | ADHD Information

Do you pick your ds up from school?  If so, then after school just pop into the classroom & see how things went.  That's what I do with my 7yo dd, but then again her teacher is a little more cooperative.  Maybe if you did this a few times his teacher would just as soon write a note so that she doesn't get the "visit from mom" !

I'd get a standing friday afternoon phone conference scheduled, and get your weekly report over the phone by asking questions yourself. Tell her to pick two behaviors to work on, and narrow future reports down to those two behaviors, and make a game plan to work on those.

If you have an IEP, you just call a meeting and have the weekly report added to the IEP.

I'm so sorry you have a teacher like that.  We went through a similar thing last year with my son's 2nd grade teacher.

The thing that always frustrated me most was if he can't remember to do things like put his work in his folder and turn in his homework, how is he supposed to remember to ask for the behavior report?

Don't worry about the fact that she's busy and has lots of other responsibilities.  Communicating with parents is one of those responsibilities and she should do it with out being nagged and without a child reminding her.

It's so hard anyway, but d*mn near impossible when you have a teacher who can't or won't cooperate. It should be next to nothing for her to click up a note for you and shoot it to your e-mail. When I encounter a teacher like this, I've come to assume that this person has issues that have nothing to do with my child and that cooperation is a casualty of her life. Maybe you can bring this up with the principal or make it a part of his learning plan, if you do that in South Africa. Otherwise, all I can suggest is that you determine a plan that has nothing to with school and that you make that your focus. Or really become a pain in her rear?

Every time we meet she says she will cooperate, and I guess at the end of the day she did give me what I wanted, three weeks later. At least now we can work on those things. But I'm going to write in the book where she gives it to give me positives and negatives next time as I am trying to do positive reinforcement.  My son can't be doing EVERYTHING wrong. Can he?

I hope next year's teacher is more up to speed with technology so that I can pester via email for my weekly report.  I do understand that there are 29 kids in the class. But this takes like 5 min every week and is so vitally important and beneficial.  I'm going to ask for the same thing for my little one next year.

I'm upset with my 8yo DS's teacher.  I asked her to give him a weekly report -two weeks ago, so that I can work on the things that he is struggling with.  Since it was not forthcoming, I nagged my son to ask for it, and he finally did remember yesterday, and got it.  Now I have had so many talks with the teacher and she has said that she believes in positive reinforcement, etc, etc.

The report contained nothing but negatives, he can't write in the lines, he can't do this without remembering, he can't do that right, etc.  I realise that this is because I asked what we could work on.

But it also said that he doesn't want to swim in the school pool  - which was an issue we had a month ago and is because everyone teases him that he is 8 and can't swim.  Since he started swimming lessons this season it's not an issue any more and he has been in a few times.  There was one exception yesterday, I stayed overnight in hospital with my other son, and there was miscommunication with the result that he didn't take his costume when he was supposed to. So this report comes that he refuses to swim in the pool. which as I say I know is wrong. So how can I trust anything else on there, and what happened to positive reinforcement?

Any suggestions?  He is going into second grade next year and I really need him to get a positive start.  I don't want to beg for weekly reports and I need to know exactly what is happening with my son, every week, regularly. I also want to show these reports to his OT who he sees weekly.  Maybe next year's teacher will know how to email, this one doesn't ... :)
