Risperdal | ADHD Information

My daughter is 4 years old.  We have seen 2 regular doctors about her ADHD and then finally found an ADHD specialist.  The regular dr's didn't know what to do.  They tried all different meds and they would work for a couple of weeks then it was at the beginning again. She wasn't paying attention in school, wouldn't sit down, wouldn't sleep, and we had to force her to eat.   Then the ADHD specialist told us to try Risperdal.  We are doing so much better in school, she sleeps all night, and trys to eat everything in site.  She was losing weight with all the other meds cuz she wasn't eating but now we are growing.  If u have those problems like I did you should try it.

Risperdal is primarily used for the treatment of bi-polar depression, schizophrenia and irritability associated with autism. I've never heard of it being used for ADD.

Is your child co-morbid (more than one disorder)? If she is then it may be that the Doctor is treating something else first (such as bi-polar depression) versus ADD. That would also explain why the ADD meds did not work if she has other issues involved.

maxdad is right risperdal is for bipolar.... BUT in young children ADHD medication doesn't always work.... so they are trying these type of meds on the younger children... i just found this out from a dr... so unless your family has a history of mental illness don't worry or is your child isn't showing any bipolar signs i wouldn't worry.... one thing with risperdal is children do gain weight.. so be very careful... my son gained so much weight when he was on it... he also drooled REALLY bad from it...   good luck..... oh yea WELCOME to the board...

my 9.5 year old has started Risperdal today, i  have come back to ADHDnews for some other peoples stories on it.

Looks like we may be travelling this road together.

I used to take Risperdal but it was for Bipolar. Along with that I took Adderall
for ADHD.
