does anyone take adderall? | ADHD Information

Hi, my 10 year old is taking it. We just started about 3 weeks ago, and our doctor said the same thing, start with 10, and double it if you need to.  Well, 10 was okay, but not quite enough and I was afraid to double it, so I opened the capsule and divided the contents, and now I just give 1-1/2. Yes, I know you're not supposed to do that! But 15 mg is perfect for him.  After he'd gotten used to the 15 for a few days, I tried bumping up to 20,  but it was too much.

If you decide to open up a capsule to divide it, be careful because those little beads come flying out very quickly.  Do it over a paper towel or napkin. Then I sort of nudge 1/2 the beads onto a small spoon and then pour them back into the capsule. I open another capsule of one of the many worthless supplements that I've tried, dump out the contents, wipe it out with a piece of paper towel rolled up, and then put the rest of the Adderall in that for the next day. It's working out fine, and when I go back to the doctor I'll just ask for the 15 mg capsule.
That's what I was thinking about doing. I think I'll go ahead and try it. By the way, this is the Adderall XR. Is that what you're giving? My son is 6 and has been taking 10 mg adderall for one week. It seems that everyone else's kids on this forum are taking concerta or something else. I think it's helping a little but I'm not sure yet. The Dr. said I could double it after one week if I don't see a difference. This seems like a lot.Yes, Adderall XR. It's worked out just fine. At first I thought that since it's a timed release thing and some of those little beads are meant to digest right away and some later in the day, it would be a problem since you could never divide them up equally. But it's been fine. And that way you can move up slowly, even if he does need 20. It gives them a chance to adjust to it.
