ADHD & chiropractic care??This is some info I found at AlternativeMentalHealth.com. Has anyone heard of this before or tried it? I'd really be interested to know of the results. "Cervical segmental dysfunction (pressure or irritation in the neck or the junction of the neck and skull)" "For the spinal nerve pressure or irritation, a few chiropractic adjustments (spinal manipulations) will usually be enough to correct this component. Occasionally there are other areas of the spine that are involved (especially in the case of a beginning scoliosis), in which case other areas of the neuromusculoskeletal system may need to be worked on. Spinal Touch Treatment has been used by me to effectively correct postural problems and scoliosis, and will often accelerate the correction of the A.D.D. or hyperactivity problem." "ADD is commonly mechanically caused by an occiput that is jammed too far forward on the cranial base (apparently a common result of any sort of birth trauma, no matter how minor). Of those he's treated who've presented with ADD, I believe that he said 60 per cent of those had the "jammed occiput" condition. Of those with this mechanical problem, he experienced a 100 per cent cure rate. Unfortunately, the mechanical aspect is rarely examined by parents seeking help with ADD." Thanks
"ADD is commonly mechanically caused by an occiput that is jammed too far forward on the cranial base (apparently a common result of any sort of birth trauma, no matter how minor).
Wouldn't it be nice if ADD could so easily be cured?!? I'm afraid not... This sounds quite plausible to me. Worth looking into, IMO. Chiropractic treatment can also treat migraine headaches (personal experience and stuff I've read). Of course, ADHD is much more than just bones out of place. That is: for some people, bones out of place may be their primary problem, and fixing that is very helpful for them. But for others, ADHD is more of a personality thing; or it's mostly a nutritional deficiency, or something else. Of course for them, fixing bones might not make any difference. I've been getting chiropractic treatments for years. It's worth it just to get rid of the migraine headaches; it seems to be the main reason I don't get those headaches much any more, though I'm using a number of other natural migraine treatments too. Often, right after a chiropractic treatment I feel "spaced-out". So, from personal experience, definitely chiropractic treatment can affect one's state of mind!! Also, I used to feel irritable when I needed a chiropractic adjustment. I do not believe this was just a reaction to chronic pain. The pain in my back was often very mild -- just a feeling, not even really pain. Yet I could be extremely irritable. I believe it was partly from direct effect of the bones on my nerves. So again, it does seem to affect mental state. I used to be very much bothered by peripheral noise. I'm not any more, or not nearly as much. Maybe it's from nutritional supplements such as choline, but I believe it's likely largely from chiropractic treatment. (I still feel OK when I forget to take the choline for months, I think.) Recently I'm learning that I can do more than just go to the chiropractor: I can also strengthen certain muscles so that when the bones are put back into place by the chiropractor, my muscles can hold them and make them stay there. I'm spending a lot of time on muscle strengthening, with some benefit and lots of hope for continued improvement. If a person's ADHD is mainly positive: creativity, enjoying multitasking, enthusiastic, always starting projects etc., then I would not tend to think they need their bones checked. But if a person has problems like some of the ones I used to have -- well, it may help to have a chiropractor check for any problems. Problems I used to have that I believe were likely connected with bones being out of place: --couldn't stand hearing more than one person talk at the same time --couldn't stand being in indoor shopping malls. Not sure why. Noise? Too many bright colours? Quality of the air? Doesn't bother me now, or not nearly as much. --was annoyed and distracted by outside noises when trying to work --felt I could benefit from "Sound Therapy" (now I just don't feel I need it) --migraine headaches (definitely connected with bones being out of place in the neck -- various evidence e.g. a headache would change and start getting better with chiropractic treatment) Hi Rosina ~ thanks for the info ~ I'm checking it out, but not having a lot of luck. No one seems to know what I'm talking about. I'm trying everything I can without the docs, but I need referrals for everything. May have to save up some money to do this on my own without insurance. It makes sense that everything is connected somehow. I also have heard that chiropractic helps Though I have not tried it, my chiropractor from my home town did offer to treat my son for free, unfortunatley, we have moved. She does state that her child has adhd, she adjusts him once a month, says it realy helps. Idon't know, just an Idea
