strattera and stomach ache | ADHD Information

My 7 year old has been on Strattera for almost two months, he is at the target dose, and is doing pretty good with it. The problem is he keeps getting stomach aches , we are keeping with it to see if it goes away, he does not do well on stimulents.. Does any one else have stomach problems? Did they go away, or did you have to stop the med??? He takes it in the morning with his breakfast... he is on 25 mg, and weighs 47 lbs.. he has lost some weight.wmtmann39038.2250115741We used Straterra for about 6 weeks and had the stomach issues the entire
time. We also had a problem with Foclin XR and stomach aches every day. A
friend of mine told me to try Papaya Enzymes for the stomach aches. They
are in the natural foods section at the grocery store. I found them at
Walmart. They look like chewable vitamins. We have tried them in the past,
but it is so hard to get a 6 year old to explain how he feels. And, shortly
after we got them, we started a new medication (Concerta) and had stomach
aches for a few days, but then they went away and he hasn't complained
since! Yeah!   

So...maybe check out the Papaya Enzyme tablets! I am an adult (well 22 so I am at least a partial adult) and have ADD and am on Strattera with similar symptoms. When I first started taking Strattera my doctor said it was not necessary to eat before taking the pill BUT it helped me tremendously by taking the pill on a full stomach. otherwise I would get major stomach pains, groin pain, and become a little light headed. Now I typically take my medication right before I go to work, which is after eating a pretty healthy meal.

We tried Straterra for a year and a half. Our son never got over the stomach aches and headaches. He also only gained about 4 pounds the entire time he was on the medicine.

The reason we finally stopped was depression and the fact that he was talking about wanting to die. He was only 10 years old and have NEVER had problems like this. We took him off for about 6 months and are now trying our second med - Daytrana. I pray that this will be better for us. (He has gained almost 30 pounds since coming off the Straterra and has shot straight up.)

Thank you for your replies.. He also has lost 5 lbs I weighed him over the weekend. He was 51 lbs, so he has lost 10% of his body weight.. Not good for a little guy.. I am calling the doctor today to see what they say...
