?’s for Daytrana Users | ADHD Information

My 8 year old dd has been on daytrana for almost 4 weeks now with good results (besides the red spots and the sleeplessness!) She has an event tonight at school and won't get home until 9:15 and she will be swimming for the last hour! First off, I am scared the patch will come off in the pool. Does anyone have experience with swimming with it on? esp. after it has already been on so long. I put the patch on at 6:00 am so if she wears it the whole time that is 15 hours! Has anyone had it on that long? SHe has once or twice and I thought it started to wane after 13 hours or so. I thought about taking her patch off after school and applying a new one. Has anyone done this? I didn't know if there would be any down time with too little med or time with too much med as one patch wears off and the other kicks in. I just can't quite figure out how to mange this evening so she can have fun and remain in control! Any suggestions???

Thanks so much for all the great info, suggestions and support on this board.

We regularly leave my daughters patch on for 11 hours and a couple times 12 hours but never longer than that. It seems to wear off pretty quickly as soon as we take it off. I am guessing that the patch becomes much less effective after 12 hours. Applying a new one would probably be all right. Even better though, would be having a short acting pill for occasions such as this. My daughter has gone swimming twice after wearing the patch all day. One time it fell off and the other time it partially came loose. I would think that after so much time on the body, the patch kinda "empties" itself, it just runs out.  For us, it still is in ds's system for at least two hours after he takes it off.  I'd think about giving her a booster dose (pill) for evenings when you have activities such as swimming.  My son performs better and enjoys himself more when he's on meds.  He can tell when they wear off/aren't working and it frustrates him.

daytrana is effective for 12 hours, it is supposed to be worn for no more than 9 hours, and then removed. it works for another 3 hours after removal.

When dd swims, and we swim alot we cover the patch with medical tape on the edges, not complretely and it stays on with that.

We were told the patch should be removed after 9 hours.  Not to exceed 9 hours.
We plan to remove it as soon as he returns from school (8 hours)
I have heard that the skin issues come in when the patch is on for more than 9 hours.
Anyone have side effects besides the skin rash?  We worry about headaches.  He had severe ones while on adderal.
faithhope,

We had stomachache with the patch for the first week or so. Also,
sleeplessness, which was extremely rough and a huge loss of appetite.
